Single Tooth Implant

Milwaukie, OR

If you are missing a single tooth, whether it be from an accident, decay, or a recent extraction, it is important that you have that tooth replaced as soon as possible.  Missing teeth create gaps that leave room for teeth shifting, discomfort while eating, challenges in speaking, as well as the development of bacteria including, and resulting in, periodontal disease.

To avoid these unwanted complications from a missing tooth, at ComfortCare Dental we recommend single tooth implants. A dental implant is a titanium post surgically implanted into your jaw.  An abutment, or screw-like connector is then inserted into the dental implant.  Finally, a dental crown is placed on top to complete the dental implant.

In order to be a candidate for a dental implant, you must have enough jawbone to hold and support the implant.  Sometimes, however, your mouth and jaw may not be quite ready to sustain a dental implant.  In this case, we are able to provide help with various procedures to strengthen your jawbone and prepare you for a single tooth implant.

Ridge Augmentation

A ridge augmentation refers to a procedure where the alveolar ridge is restored to its original dimensions either for functionality or aesthetical purposes. If you opt for dental implants after the extraction of your teeth, you might need a ridge augmentation to strengthen your gums and jaws to support the implants. At ComfortCare Dental, we also recommend ridge augmentation for patients who have not lost any teeth, but whose dental issues have ruined the aesthetics of their natural gum line.

Sinus Lift

A sinus lift is commonly referred to as a sinus augmentation. This type of surgery is used to add bone, through a bone grafting technique, to your upper jaw to add a more stabilized support structure. It is given its name through the specific area the bone is added, which is between your jaw and maxillary sinuses, which can be on either side of your nose. For our surgical team to fit the bone, we will have to lift the sinus membrane upward. This procedure can be done within 20 to 60 minutes, varying on the technique used to graft the bone. It will require local anesthetic, which is something to be mindful of postoperative, to ensure you have someone to drive you back home.

Tooth Socket Graft

A dental implant goes inside the jawbone. It may fail if the jawbone experiences accelerated bone loss or gum recession. The tooth socket graft procedure ensures there is enough healthy bone and gum tissue to sustain the implant therapy. A tooth socket graft provides long term stability and improves the rate of success.

The closing of the empty socket can be done with restorative procedures like implants, dentures, and bridges. A graft holds the space for a new tooth or implant while the socket heals. Tooth socket grafts also prevent further bone loss in the mandible. Biocompatible bone graft material is placed inside the socket to promote healing. Tooth socket grafts are used in various situations.
